“Dedicated to the fun and appreciation of good choral singing”The Towne Singers is a non-profit community chorus. It provides an opportunity for adults of all ages and backgrounds to sing, have fun, and provide entertainment for the community. We sing a wide variety of music: classical, patriotic, spiritual, gospel, folk and Broadway-- Music that has been and continues to be popular through the years. The Towne Singers perform two concerts a year -- Spring and Holiday. Our goal is to bring quality concerts to the community at an affordable cost. To do this we rely on our members to be faithful in attending rehearsals each week, learning their parts, and supporting the production through the selling of tickets and ads, publicizing the Towne Singers, and participating in other tasks key to a successful production. A Board governs the Towne Singers. The Board is composed of elected officers and section leaders; the Board members must be members of the Towne Singers. In general, meetings (board, special, and committee) are open to all members of the Towne Singers (participation in meetings involving employment or contract negotiation may be restricted). The Towne Singers Board is responsible for all administrative aspects of the group, including the selection of the Conductor and concert themes, fundraising, accounting, and publicity. These responsibilities are usually assigned to committees, and the Board reviews/concurs with the recommendations. Questions and comments as to the direction or policies of the organization may be directed to the President, other Board members, or Section Leaders. The Conductor is responsible for the music. Questions, comments, and concerns about tone, rhythm, pronunciation, pitch, voice placement, seating and all other areas of musicology should be discussed with the Conductor, but only after first discussing them with your section leader. In practice, the Conductor and the Board work in a collaborative fashion. The Board sets policy as to required rehearsal attendance for eligibility to participate in concerts. Members are expected to support the fundraising activities. The selling of tickets and ads, and the publicity of the Towne Singers activities are the responsibility of all members. Currently, member dues are $28 per month for each month that we rehearse or perform. There is an additional fee to cover the cost of the music. Finally, we are a "birds-of-a-feather" organization! We depend upon our members to recruit new members. All are welcome, and auditions are not required to join. Members do, however, need to be able to carry a tune and blend with the chorus. Some experience reading music is helpful, but not required. The Conductor positions each member based on a best fit for the choral sound. | |||||||
